Animals: In the temperate rainforest the amimal species vary. During each season the animals are different. They come out at different times of the year. For example bears, deers,Gray jays, and more.
Gray Wolf- The gray wolf has sharp teeth and claws for hunting. Gray Wolves are fast runners to help them get away from danger. Their furs color also helps to blend in with their surroundings, it also helps them sneak up on their prey. The Gray Wolves live and hunt in packs of six to ten to help them survive.Wolves eat ungulates, or large hoofed mammals, like elk, deer, moose and caribou. Wolves are also known to eat beaver, rabbits and other small prey. Wolves are also scavengers and often eat animals that have died due to other causes like starvation and disease.
Bobcats- Bobcats can go a long time without food. But they will eat heavily when prey is abundant. Bobcats will often prey on large animals that it can kill and return to feed on later. Bobcats eat animals like skunks, rodents, birds, deer, etc. Bobcats live in forested or wooded areas. Common den sites include fallen trees, hallow logs or trees, thickets, caves, and rock piles.
Skunks- Skunks will eat almost anything that an animal will consume. Skunks diet mostly include insects, nuts, fish, small vertebrates, fruits, leaves, grasses, etc. They will also eat the carcasses of other dead animals and anything they find in the garbage. They are commonly found in populated areas because it is easy for them to find shelter. Skunks are rarely found more than two miles away from a water source. They prefer to live in areas with the combination of grasslands or meadows with woodlands. The three behavioral adaptations of a striped skunk are that they have the ability to spray a nasty smelling liquid on anything that threatens it. They also have long claws which they use for digging insects and burrows. The skunk also has a color combination that it uses to warn other predators to stay away.

Porcupines- Porcupines eat vegetables. They will feed on the buds of trees such as the sugar maple. In fall Porcupines switch over to acorns and pine nuts they gather from the top of trees. Porcupines are both arboreal and ground habitat animals. They like use hollowed out logs or tree trunks and crevices in rocks often make the list of den sites chosen for shelter and warmth. The most obvious adaptation of the porcupine is its quills as a method of defense. It has over 30,000 quills on its body which are long stiff hairs with barbed ends. When an animal comes near it can lash out its tail, sticking the quills into that animal. The body heat of the animal causes the barbed ends to expand and become even more embedded in the animal. Porcupines can’t shoot their quills, but they are a very valuable method of defense.
Beavers- Beavers are herbivores, they will eat bark from hardwood trees such as birch, aspen, willow, cottonwood, and Adler. They will also eat leaves, roots, and twigs from certain trees such as Willow, Aspen and water plants of all kinds. Beavers live in streams, rivers, marshes, pounds, and shorelines of large lakes. Beavers prefer to dam stream in shallow valleys by cutting down small trees and cleaning brush.
Bald Eagle- Bald Eagles typically nest in forested areas adjacent to large bodies of water. Bald Eagles prefer tall, mature trees with a wide view of the surroundings. Bald Eagles mostly eat salmon, herring, shad, and catfish. The also eat other birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates such as crabs and small mammals. Bald Eagles can also survive fasting for many days and even weeks.
Moose- Moose basically eat twigs. Although moose lack teeth in the front of their upper jaw, they have little trouble dealing with woody plants material. They feed on fresh leaves by browsing. Moose prefer cool climates. Water plants such as pond weed and certain types of pond lilies attract moose to lake and streams.
Grizzly Bears-The grizzly bears diet include small rodents,fish,carrion,grasses,roots,berries,insects,fish.etc. Where grizzly live are called dens. They like to build dens in caves, burrows, dead timber, etc. They live near rivers and coastal areas since they like fish.
